This weeks blog gives an insight into the world of 18 year old photography apprentice Deni Jasmine Barras. Deni is currently studying photography at university between her hands on experience with lee and her studies we managed to grab 5 minutes to find out what life is like stepping into the world of professional photography.
Have you always wanted to be a photographer?
“I’ve always loved taking photographs of people and animals however I really fell in love with photography about two years ago, when I started studying it for A level. I really loved being able to explore my own style and use my imagination to create a shot which holds a deeper meaning.”
Why do you take photos, what inspires you?
I take photos because I like telling a visual story. You can capture such great emotion in just one shot which I think is wonderful and actually quite clever . Many things inspire me but I’ve always loved taking photos of people, especially close up portraiture.
There’s also no better feeling than capturing the happiness on someones Wedding day. I think that’s what inspires me to keep doing Wedding photography, the smile on everyone’s face.
What is your favourite part of the wedding day?
“I think it’s difficult to pinpoint one specific part however I do love the Bride and Groom prep and the first dance. Watching everyone’s adrenaline and nerves kick in as they prepare for the big day ahead just fills me with great happiness. Which is similar to the first dance...everyone radiates love and it’s infectious! I’m not ashamed to say I’ve shed a tear or two at a few now.”
How would you describe your style and approach?
I would say my style is fairly modern, I tend to alternate between styles according to the situation and I just love experimenting. Sometimes I shoot with a darker approach, dark lighting and lots of shadows but majority of the time, especially for Weddings I love a bright and ‘airy’ effect.

Where would your dream location be?
I did actually shoot a wedding for my Uncle in Saint Lucia, Caribbean and it was absolutely amazing so I would definitely have to say somewhere Tropical.
Whats the best moment you’ve had as a wedding photographer?
My favourite moment so far was at a Greek Orthodox wedding, we got to witness their traditions and specific ceremonies which I found so fascinating and inspiring.
What's it like working with Lee?
I started working for Lee in May. It’s been a short but amazing time so far. Lee is great to work with, he is laid back but so hardworking and it’s clear he absolutely loves his job. I’ve already learnt so much from him and it’s beginning to show through in my photography, I look forward to the future working with Lee.
Relax and unwind?
My favourite place is the beach. The sound or being by the sea really relaxes me and I find it so therapeutic, I’m also a massive animal lover, so bringing my Dogs to the beach and watching them roll around in the sand is one of my favourite things...especially the trail of sand they leave behind in my car!
5 years from now?
I’d love to still be In a job doing photography, whether it’s doing my own Weddings or editorial photography, as long as I have my camera, I’ll be happy.
Here’s what Lee had to say…..
